Library Administrator Vacancy



  • The Merida English Library (MEL) is now accepting applications for the Library Administrator position.  This is a year-round, part-time position (28 hours/week), reporting directly to the MEL Board President or his/her designated representative.  Please review the following job duties and qualifications. Library Administrator Duties:

Community Engagement

  1. Coordinates and develops MEL programs to promote membership growth and expand involvement of children, young adults, students and adults, both Spanish and English-speaking.
  2. Coordinates internship and community service programs, and supervises interns and student participants.



  1. Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises MEL volunteers to assist with library operations, and as otherwise directed by the Board.
  2. Supports MEL committees as needed including fund-raising and collections committees.


  1. Responds directly to phone calls, emails and other messages or delegates  them to other appropriate personnel as needed.
  2. Provides content, coordinates, supervises, and distributes monthly newsletter and “Flashes”;

updates website and other social media regularly.

  1. Attends monthly Board meetings to provide updates.


  1. Day to day management of cash receipts, petty cash and supplier payments including utilities. Control of supplies and purchasing.
  2. Prepare HR and financial documents for MEL treasurer and accountant.
  3. Oversight of  building maintenance, assets and IT infrastructure including software licensing.
  4. Supervision and payment of contract staff.
  5. Control of supplies and purchasing.


Job Qualifications

  1. Ability to organize and work independently.
  2. A positive and outgoing personality with excellent communication skills; and ability to work with people of all ages.
  3. Administrative experience, including ability with computers and technology.
  4. Experience in community or volunteer organization, networking and/or leadership.
  5. Fluent in both Spanish and English and a sensitivity for the cultures of both speakers.
  6. Library experience helpful but not a prerequisite.  


28 hours per week:

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday

Additional 4 hours a week split between 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and once a month participation in Conversaciones con Amigos (2 hours taken from the Wednesday afternoon shift) once a month.
