MEL Goes Solar!

Big News! On June 30th, we switched on our new inverter and began utilizing energy from the sun to power our building! Thanks to the support of the community during our year-round fundraising programs (House and Garden Tours, Membership Fees, Event Tickets, etc.) we were able to hire Habitec,  a solar energy company based in Merida, to install 12 locally-made Solarsol panels on the library roof as part of our Go Green! campaign at the library. The library will get a return on the investment after about 6 years, and in the meantime we will be able to reduce our dependence on CFE to almost zero.
  • Total Electric Energy Savings: 100%
  • Barrels of Petroleum Saved: 114
  • CO2 Savings: 3866 kg
  • Equivalent to planting 98 trees
We are so excited to join the ranks of solar energy users and we can’t thank you enough for the financial support and community involvement that makes MEL a vibrant, active, and SUSTAINABLE library!
